The State of Texas has formally filed documentation in order to be reimbursed by the Department of Homeland Security for costs related to Operation Lone Star.

Operation Lone Star was the state’s response, beginning in 2021, to former President Joe Biden’s radical open-border policies, which resulted in millions of illegal aliens entering the United States, primarily through Texas.

So how long will it take for money to start flowing back into Texas state coffers? According to Ammon Blair with the Texas Public Policy Foundation, it could be just a few weeks. “The request period doesn’t end till July 6, but once the request period does end, it should take less than a month to allocate that money,” he explained.

There is some bad news, however. Between the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security, only about $13 billion has been set aside, which means Texas might not be fully reimbursed for Operation Lone Star.

Blair says: “We’re actually competing with other states, so we’re not gonna receive all of that money. We’re only going to get a portion of it.” Multiple states, including Florida and South Dakota, assisted Texas with Operation Lone Star and will likely apply for and receive some level of funding.

The other major question facing Texas is what to do with any funds that we do receive. Blair says the answer to that is simple: reinvest it. “This money must be allocated so that we understand who, what, where, why, and how anything is coming across, in any domain—land, sea, or air,” he said.

He went on to warn that there will be open-border presidents in the future, and Texas needs to be ready for it.
