1 US And China Extend Trade Truce Through January 10th
The United States and China have agreed to extend their trade truce through January 10th, giving the two countries more time to work toward a broader economic agreement. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the extension yesterday after an unscheduled meeting with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng in Washington. The announcement came just minutes after Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in the United States for a state visit with President Donald Trump. Bessent said China has not fully met some of its earlier promises, and American officials want to see more progress before making a longer-term deal. Bessent said the two sides could reach a larger economic agreement by January, although they might instead decide to extend the current arrangement again.
2 Federal Judge Issues Temporary Restraining Order To Have Press Credentials Returned To Banned News Organizations
A federal judge has ordered the White House to restore press credentials for journalists from CNN, Politico and MS NOW after President Donald Trump's administration banned the three news organizations from the White House. Judge Timothy Kelly issued a temporary restraining order at 2 am Eastern Time this morning requiring White House officials and their representatives to immediately return the passes that were taken away on Friday. The order will remain in effect for 14 days unless the court decides otherwise. Trump himself is excluded from the order, but other White House officials must follow it. Kelly previously ordered the White House to restore CNN reporter Jim Acosta's press pass during Trump's first term.
3 Rubio Says Trump Has Invited Putin to G20 Summit
The G20 summit in Miami may feature a highly watched guest list. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday confirmed that President Trump has invited Vladimir Putin to the December summit, to be held at Trump's Doral golf resort, the Telegraph reports. "We've invited President Putin to the G20, we think that's an opportunity for him to engage not just with the president, but with other world leaders," Rubio said during the UN General Assembly, adding that the White House hopes the Russian leader accepts. "If you only meet with people that you agree with, then these are very nice meetings, but nothing happens," Rubio told reporters. "In order to solve problems, you have to meet with the people you disagree with, or the people that you might have some issues with. Rubio spoke to reporters after a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, the AP reports. He said both Russia and Ukraine have expressed interest in a limited ceasefire to end attacks on energy infrastructure and grain shipments.
