1 Evacuation Ordered In Michigan After Texas Air National Guard F-16 Crash
A Texas Air National Guard F-16 crashed in northern Michigan during a routine training mission yesterday afternoon, forcing nearby homes and businesses to evacuate because of a hazardous chemical spill connected to the wreck. The F-16 Fighting Falcon was flying out of the Air National Guard’s Combat Readiness Training Center in Alpena when officials say it experienced an incident shortly before 2 p.m. The pilot successfully ejected before the crash and was taken to a nearby hospital. Grand Traverse County Sheriff Michael Shea said the pilot was conscious and speaking with law enforcement after the accident, and no other injuries were reported. All Texas Air National Guard aircraft that were in Michigan for the training exercise were grounded after the crash.
2 Judge Says Trump Must Give 30 Days' Notice Before Demolishing Kennedy Center
A federal judge has ordered the Trump administration to give 30 days’ notice before making major changes to its Kennedy Center renovation plans, including any attempt to tear down the building. The order came after President Donald Trump was photographed looking at a placard that appeared to include the words "Kennedy Center DEMOLISHED." U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper also ordered the administration to update him by next Wednesday on the building’s current closure and emergency repairs. Trump said Wednesday that the performing arts center could eventually close or be "ripped down" if his administration does not receive recognition for its work there. Congress approved $257 million for Kennedy Center renovations last year, but Trump has said the renovations will not move forward unless his name is restored to the building.
3 White House Withdraws Nominee To Lead ICE
The White House has withdrawn Lance Schroyer’s nomination to lead U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, but gave no reason for the decision. President Donald Trump nominated the former Oklahoma state trooper for the position in June; Schroyer is close to Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin but has little direct experience with immigration enforcement, and his nomination had stalled in the Senate without a confirmation hearing. ICE has not had a Senate-confirmed director since the Obama administration. David Venturella is currently serving as acting director after Todd Lyons resigned earlier this year.
