Affordable Housing Complex Okayed for Med Center

City Council has approved an incentive package which will allow the construction of affordable housing apartments in the Medical Center, one of the areas around the city where housing prices are spiraling out of control, News Radio 1200 WOAI.

Developer Franklin Development Properties Ltd will turn the property previous occupied by the Turtle Creek Country Club at 3830 Parkdale into a 235 unit multi family rental complex, catering to families at 60 percent and below the area median income.

The project, which should be open by March of 2021, will include 2 bedroom units leasing for less than $850 a month, and 3 bedrooms leasing for abpout $965 a month.

Affordable housing and dealing with the higher price of residential housing has been a top priority of Mayor Ron Nirenberg.

Onsite amenities will include a pool, two play-scape areas, community room, library, gym and business center along with resident services such as afterschool activities (STEM, swimming lessons, leadership and team building), health and wellness programs, a food pantry, resident gardens and financial literacy courses.
