One of the first rules of being a criminal is...if the police are investigating you for murder...don't go and do something that gets you noticed...like..uh..shoplifting.
1200 WOAI news reports Joe Sanchez had been identified as a suspect in the brutal home invasion shooting of two people in an apartment on the city's southwest side early yesterday.
Police were told to be on the lookout for Sanchez, but Officer Michelle Ramos says security guards at a southwest side store did their job for them.
"We were called to the store, and when officers arrived there, a person was under arrest for theft under $20," Ramos said.
Sanchez was taken into custody, and that's when police noticed there was an active warrant out for Sanchez' arrest.
Police believe that the incident, which left one person in the apartment dead and another in critical condition, was drug related.
