Vacant Home Destroyed in West Side Fire

A vacant home was completely destroyed in a fast moving fire early today, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

By the time fire units arrived at the house at El Paso and Chupederas, on the city's west side, the house was already completely engulfed in flames.

Firefighters 'went defensive' and made sure the fire didn't spread to nearby tightly-packed homes.

Officials say arson investigators are on the scene, but they point out that the home was vacant.  The city has been bedeviled in the past couple of years by vagrants and drug users who use vacant homes to sleep and to use drugs, frequently starting fires in the process.
