Hurricane Harvey Comes Ashore, Downgraded to Category 1

Hurricane Harvey has come ashore, actually it made two landfalls overnight, and Harvey has been downgraded to a Category 1 Hurricane, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

But the National Hurricane Center reports Harvey remains a very dangerous storm, and the threat of flooding rain and damaging winds contiunes for San Antonio and Austin.

Damage assessments are being made in the Corpus Christi area, and reports of scattered damage are coming in.

The roof of an apartment building in Rockport collapsed, injuring 10 people.

A man who thought Hurricane Harvey would be a fantastic time to break into a Corpus Christi home found out the hard way that homeowner vigilance never sleeps when the homeowner shot and wounded him.. He hospitalized in stable condition.

There is a report of a boat and crew missing out of Port Aransas.

President Trump has approved the state's request for a disaster declaration so people who suffered damage can begin to apply for assistance.

Gov. Abbott has also suspended collection of hotel occupancy taxes for evacuees and for people coming into the area to help storm victims recover.

In San Antonio, CPS Energy reports about 3,000 customers without electric power, ad there are no streets flooded due to Harvey's rains.
