Arson Suspected in Fire at Vacant Northeast Side Home

Firefighters suspect arson in a fire that badly damaged a vacant home on the northeast side early today, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

By the time the first units arrived at the home on Constitution Street, flames were already emerging from the one story house.  Part of the roof collapsed shortly after 3:30 this morning.

Arson investigators were called in.

Nobody was hurt in the fire at the house, which was believed to be vacant.

There has been a rash of fires at empty homes across the city in recent months.  Many of the homes are believed to be inhabited by homeless 'squatters' and drug users, who have been blamed for starting several of the fires.

Arson investigators will determine if that was the case in this morning's fire.
