Victor Wembanyama Becomes Youngest Player To Win Defensive POY Award

As the Spurs continue their playoff journey this year, they can add one trophy already to the case.

Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama has been named the 2025-2026 NBA Defensive Player of the Year, announced Monday evening by the league. The 7'4 shot blocking maestro becomes the youngest to ever win the award and also became the award's first unanimous winner.

It is Wembanyama's first major NBA season award. He is the fourth Spurs player to win the award, alongside Alvin Robertson (1985-1986), David Robinson (1991-1992) and Kawhi Leonard (2014-2015, 2015-2016).

The Spurs star averages 3.1 blocks per game this season, with the next closes player averaging 1.9 blocks per game. In all, Wembanyama swatted away 197 shots this year.

Wembanyama might not be done with awards yet. The 22-year-old is also up for the league's Most Valuable Player award, which has yet to be announced.
