1 US Won't Renew Trade Deal With Mexico And Canada
The Trump administration announced yesterday that the U.S. will not renew the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, the trade deal President Trump himself negotiated during his first term to replace NAFTA. A senior administration official said the U.S. did not agree to renew the deal in its current form, but that it will stay in effect while the country continues to engage with its neighbors. U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer pointed to trade deficits and other shortcomings as the reason. The announcement came on the day the deal hit a key review deadline, which required a joint meeting among the three countries. The agreement runs until 2036 and will remain in place through a series of annual reviews unless a new deal is reached, but officials made clear Trump could withdraw earlier if he sees fit. Trump once called the deal the best agreement the country ever made, but has since soured on it, accusing both neighbors of ripping off the U.S. and saying they need to treat the country better.
2 Paramedics Responded To A "Cardiac Arrest" Call At Sen. Mitch McConnell's Home The Day Of His Hospitalization
Paramedics responded to a report of a cardiac arrest for an unconscious person at an address linked to Senator Mitch McConnell on the same morning his office said he was hospitalized, according to police scanner audio obtained by "NBC News." The June 14th dispatch call, which came in shortly before 9 a.m., referenced CPR in progress for a cardiac arrest and mentioned an unconscious individual. That same day, his office said only that he had been admitted and was receiving excellent care. When asked about the audio, his office pointed to an earlier statement saying McConnell is still working with staff on Senate business as he recovers but will not be voting. McConnell, 84, has faced a string of health scares in recent years, including an eight-day hospital stay in February for flu-like symptoms, a 2023 concussion from a fall, and two on-camera freezing episodes.
3 USA Moves To Round Of 16
The United States Men’s National Team made their elimination round debut last night against a feisty team from Bosnia-Herzegovina. Team USA finally found the net thanks to a goal from Folarin Balogun to put them up 1-0 in the 45th minute of play. Things got interesting, however, when Balogun earned himself a red card in the 61st minute after a collision with an opposing player, which caused an immediate backlash. Malik Tillman was able to put a cushion on that lead with another U.S. goal in the 82nd minute. With the 2-0 win, the USMNT advances to the elimination round of 16, with a tough matchup against Belgium on Monday at 7:00pm in Seattle.
