Bexar County Judge Orders Businesses To Require Face Masks

Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff has announced the county will be enacting a new order that calls on businesses that deal with the public to require masks to be worn by customers and employees, if people are within six feet of each other.

The order goes into effect on June 22. There could be a $1,000 fine against the businesses – not the customer – if there are violators.

This follows the mayors of the nine largest cities in the state (including San Antonio and Austin) sending the mayor a letter last night asking for approval to require masks.

San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg also issued an addendum to San Antonio's city order to include many of the elements of the county order. "This requires that all businesses in San Antonio require face coverings of their employees and visitors where appropriate physical distancing is not possible," said Nirenberg.
