Russia has defaulted on its foreign debt.

Credit ratings agency Standard and Poor's said today Russia defaulted on two dollar-denominated bonds because it tried to pay in rubles.

Moscow has a 30-day grace period from the April 4th default to make the payments.

S&P said it doesn't expect Russia to convert its payments into dollars due to Western sanctions that have frozen more than 300-billion dollars of Moscow's foreign currency reserves.
