California will now require all of its 2.2 million healthcare workers to be fully vaccinated by September 30.
The order, issued Thursday by the California Department of Public Health, is different than Governor Gavin Newsome's announcement last month that healthcare workers would have the choice of either getting vaccinated or submitting to weekly testing.
This new order does not give workers the choice.
The change comes as California is seeing the fastest increase in new COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic.
