In the wake of widespread anti-police protests, New York cops are reportedly planning to strike back with a protest of their own.
Text messages intercepted by the New York Post reveal NYPD officers are planning a July 4th strike to protest the anti-police sentiment and recently proposed budget cuts. One of the texts, which has been widely circulated throughout the department, reads, "NYPD cops will strike on July 4th to let the city have their independence without cops."
In spite of the texts, a department spokeswoman says reports of a planned strike are completely false. "New York City Police Officers will be here today, tomorrow, and on the 4th of July to protect all New Yorkers," says Sgt. Mary Frances O’Donnell.
