Republicans Defend Decision To Block Ambassador From Testifying

House Republicans are defending the State Department's decision to block a key figure in the Ukraine scandal from testifying in Congress. Talking with reporters, North Carolina's Mark Meadows said Democrats are leading an unfair process.

Ambassador Gordon Sondland was scheduled to go behind closed doors with members of three House committees today. New York's Lee Zeldin said Dems are putting on a "clown show." Ohio's Jim Jordan insisted that President Trump is doing his job appropriately.

Florida Representative Matt Gaetz says House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff isn't running a fair hearing:

What we see in this impeachment is a kangaroo court and Chairman Schiff is acting like a malicious kangaroo.

Sondland is the U.S. Ambassador to the European Union. The Trump Administration enlisted Sondland to take the lead in negotiations with Ukraine. President Trump wanted Ukraine to investigate former VP Joe Biden and his son Hunter, who had some business dealings in Ukraine. There has been no evidence of wrongdoing by the Bidens.
