Nike Unveils ‘Pro Hijab’ for Muslim Female Athletes

Nike will soon start selling a performance hijab or head cover for Muslim female athletes that it’s calling a “Pro-Hijab.” The garment has a pull-on design and is made from lightweight polyester in dark, neutral colors. The fabric has tiny holes that make it breathable while remaining opaque, which is a requirement for women who wear a hijab. Even though it’s not out for sale yet, the Pro Hijab is already being worn by Emirati figure skater Zahra Lari. Nike said it began developing the hijab after some Muslim athletes complained about the difficulties of wearing a traditional head scarf while competing.
