After the death last week of 87-year-old Little Ceasars founder and Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Tigers owner Mike Ilitch, several articles on his passing revealed that he'd paid civil rights icon Rosa Parks' rent for more than 10 years. Not long after Parks famously refused to give up her seat and move to the back of the bus in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1955, she moved to Detroit, and lived there for decades until the end of her life. In 1994, an elderly Parks was robbed and assaulted in her Detroit home, and afterwards, Ilitch helped find an apartment for her in a safer neighborhood, and he paid the rent until her death in 2005.
