Russian president Vladimir Putin said recently that the war with Ukraine may soon come to an end.
The big questions are, what happened? And why now?
"Well, it's not a change of heart, it's really a change of math" said retired Lt. Col. Robert Maginnis, "Putin has signaled that the cost benefit analysis of the war is turning against him."
So, with that said, what would an end to the Russia-Ukraine war look like?
"I don't think you're going to have a peace agreement, I think you're going to have an armistice" Maginnis told KTRH, "Basically, we agree to lay down weapons, but we aren't agreeing that the war is over."
Something he calls a reloading pause, or a frozen conflict, similar to what we've seen between North and South Korea since 1952.
"Putin is considering that maybe he needs to take the best deal he can get, and then walk away from this war" noted Maginnis, "Now, that doesn't mean this war is over. What it means is that both sides are essentially exhausted."
Russia invaded Ukraine while Joe Biden was in office, in 2022.
