In a post on Truth Social, President Trump announced that he will suspend the war in Iran for two weeks subject to “the complete, immediate and safe opening of the Strait of Hormuz”
This comes hours before Trump's 7pm deadline, and after his strong warning that "The entire country can be taken out in one night, and that night might be tomorrow night," which the President vowed on Monday.
According to Fox News, the move came after talks with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
“This will be a double sided CEASEFIRE! The reason for doing so is that we have already met and exceeded all Military objectives, and are very far along with a definitive Agreement concerning Longterm PEACE with Iran, and PEACE in the Middle East,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Trump said he received a 10-point proposal from Iran, calling it a "workable basis on which to negotiate."
"Almost all of the various points of past contention have been agreed to between the United States and Iran, but a two week period will allow the Agreement to be finalized and consummated," he wrote.
Now, a two-week cease-fire is underway in the Iran war, with Tehran signaling it will reopen the Strait of Hormuz and allow safe passage for commercial shipping.
The agreement, brokered by Pakistan, marks a significant de-escalation after weeks of fighting that had effectively shut down one of the world’s most critical energy corridors.
Iran’s foreign minister said his country will halt what it describes as “defensive operations” if the attacks by the United States and Israel stop.
A U.S. official has confirmed strikes have now stopped in line with the cease-fire agreement.
The cease-fire is limited to two weeks and remains fragile, but it creates a narrow opening for additional negotiations amid intense international pressure to prevent a wider regional war and stabilize global energy markets.
"We have a plan, because of the power of our military, where every bridge in Iran will be decimated by 12 tomorrow night, where every power plant in Iran will be out of business, burning, exploding, and never to be used again," Trump warned. "I mean, complete demolition by 12, and it'll happen over a period of four hours if we wanted to. "We don't want that to happen."
Earlier in the day, an Iranian official on Tuesday called on youths in the country to form human chains around power plants ahead of potential strikes threatened by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Alireza Rahimi, identified by Iranian state television as the secretary of the Supreme Council of Youth and Adolescents, made the comments in a video message broadcasted early Tuesday.
"I invite all young people, athletes, artists, students and university students and their professors," he said.
