It's been over a month since the 'SAVE America Act' passed in the House, and now there is a group of House Republicans that says enough is enough. And because of that, they plan to block the Senate until the SAVE Act passes.
Part of that group is Congressman, Keith Self (R-TX3).
"It was time to lay down a marker, and say we need to support our President and not pass anything until the Senate takes this up in a real substantive way" Self said.
It's a great idea and a great plan, but Rep. Self is not optimistic that it will matter. At least not yet.
After enormous pressure and backlash, Sen. majority leader John Thune is finally going to bring the bill to the floor this week, but it won't pass.
"It's going to be a show vote" Self told KTRH, "The leader of the Senate is gaslighting the American public, saying we're going to have a full debate. They're not."
Which is not going to cut it with President Trump, or the American people.
"We know it's going to fail, it's going to fail because it still needs 60 votes, so you're going to have to go to the 'talking filibuster', as you want to have a full and robust debate."
We'll see if that debate turns 'robust'. In the meantime, President Trump has said he is not going to do anything, including endorsing either John Cornyn or Ken Paxton here in Texas, until the 'SAVE America Act' is passed.
