We have all come to expect some bias from the mainstream media, even though they will deny it tooth and nail. But once again, they are at it with the biased reporting and negativity when it comes to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), while leaving out any kind of positive actions the agency has performed.
They have not reported on the thousands of violent criminals they have deported, not talked about the fact they are enforcing federal immigration law to the fullest extent. Instead, they focus on the negatives. They hyperfocus on the shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, both of which were agitating ICE, the former attempting to run one over with her vehicle. Every headline is about ICE being evil, President Trump is bad, and encouraging Americans this is some Fascist regime.
In reality, it is the furthest thing from it. ICE is doing the job that liberals were totally fine with them performing under President Obama. A president who set records for deportations, by the way. But here we are, with the Media Research Center (MRC) reporting that the legacy media is negatively reporting on ICE 93-percent of the time.
Bill D'Agostino of the MRC says the reporting has had to stay consistently negative, because reporting anything positive would destroy their narrative.
"Their narrative that ICE are kidnappers, masked thugs there to disrupt a happy, quiet community, and that there is no reason for them to be there," he says.
The media's narrative too has been a vicious cycle. They report negative, Democrat politicians reinforce it by encouraging protestors to be violent, and it leads to issues. The solution is really simple. If you do not want bad things to happen at the hands of federal law enforcement, do not impede federal law enforcement operations. But that just does not seem to click.
It does not click for the party, the voters, or the legacy media. They continue reporting the same old thing. Mostly because there are no repercussions, but also because they simply cannot change course now.
"If they were to report on positives more than a couple times...they would risk the strength of that narrative...that is not something they would be interested in doing," says D'Agostino.
This is not new, either. Another MRC report from January 7th through January 21st found the big four news apps reported negatively on ICE in Minnesota 86-percent of the time. Those are apps that send negative, biased news directly into millions of phones. That is not accidental, it seems deliberate and intentional.
If for some reason you think that will change, think again. Because Democrats and the legacy media are not particularly skilled at self-reflection.
"That is not something they will ever be interested in doing," D'Agostino says. "It is basically the position of corporate media at this point that, with few exceptions, no deportation at all should take place for any reason."
Some stations have tried recently. CBS News made efforts to make their news reporting a little fairer, but even they have fallen short according to D'Agostino.
Nothing will change though. It will be the same drum beat all the way to midterms. So, buckle up. This same coverage is not going away any time soon.
