Top immigration enforcement officials, including ICE Director Todd Lyons, testified today before Congress in a House Homeland Security Committee meeting.

Lyons highlighted the successes of the Trump administration’s mass deportation efforts, which, according to Lyons, include the successful arrests of over 7,000 suspected gang members and more than 1,400 known or suspected terrorists.

Lyons also pushed back against the claim that only 14 percent of those in ICE custody are violent criminals. According to his testimony, more than 60 percent of the illegal aliens in ICE custody have pending criminal convictions or charges.

A line of questioning from Representative Eli Crane (R-AZ) also exposed the dangers of Democrat-run sanctuary cities. Both Lyons and CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott said they’d prefer to send their agents into prisons because it would be safer.
