U.S. forces have seized a Venezuela-linked sanctioned oil tanker in the North Atlantic after pursuing it for weeks.

War Secretary Pete Hegseth said that the military seized the vessel without incident and handed over control to law enforcement officials.

"The blockade of sanctioned and illicit Venezuelan oil remains in FULL EFFECT — anywhere in the world," Hegseth said on X.

The seizure came hours after President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that the Venezuelans agreed to give the US between 30 and 50 million barrels of their oil. Trump ordered a "blockade" of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela on Dec. 16.
