At Texas A&M, a faculty appeals panel has ruled that the university did not have good cause to fire former Professor Melissa McCoul. She was let go from her position after an undercover video—recorded by a student—showed her teaching “woke” gender ideology in her class.
This sparked massive backlash, including from State Representative Brian Harrison, who has been an outspoken critic of left-wing indoctrination at Texas’ public colleges and universities.
Harrison—who is himself an Aggie—is now saying it might be time for this faculty panel at A&M to go, too. “This group should be disbanded,” he said. “I’m sick and tired of the liberal inmates running the proverbial asylums in higher education in the State of Texas, but that’s what’s been happening.”
Harrison went on to suggest that the recommendation to rehire McCoul be completely ignored by A&M’s new interim president. “Take their recommendation and throw it directly into the circular filing cabinet—throw it right in the trash,” he said. “This leftist professor better not be rehired.”
He says this is just another example of how—even though significant progress has been made in fighting “woke” culture—there’s still a lot of work to be done. He also called on Governor Abbott to convene a special session of the legislature to further address the issue.
