2 Killed as Plane Crashes Northwest of Fort Worth: Report

A small plane crashed into a compound of parked 18-wheelers, killing two people and leaving several blazes for firefighters to extinguish as black smoke ascended into the Sunday afternoon sky west of DFW Airport.

The identities of those killed have not been revealed, according to a Fort Worth fire department spokesman.

Tarrant County sheriff's officers say the fires are now out.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration have been notified and are expected to be the lead investigators into the cause of the crash, so local officials are deferring questions to federal authorities.

Officials say the crash happened about 1:30 pm not far from Hicks Airfield, a small private airport, off Business Highway 287 in unincorporated Tarrant County, and it's believed the crash caused several18-wheelers, also called semitrucks, to catch fire.along North Saginaw Blvd.

A spokesperson for Hicks Airfield said the plane was not based there, but declined to say where it was based.

There's been no word on casualties or how many people were on board the plane.
