Democrats have voted to continue the government shutdown, rejecting a third attempt by Republicans to pass a clean continuing resolution to extend funding.
The most recent vote was 53-45, a party-line vote. At least seven Democrats will have to join Republicans in order to pass a funding measure.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) has said he intends to keep forcing the Democrats to vote down the funding measure until it passes.
Democrats are continuing to demand an extra $1.5 trillion in new spending, primarily to provide healthcare to illegal aliens.
