Representative Michael McCaul (R-TX) has announced that he will not be seeking another term in Congress during the 2026 midterms.
McCaul first entered Congress in 2005 after serving as chief of counterterrorism and national security in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas.
McCaul said in a press release, "My father’s service in World War II inspired me to pursue a life of public service, with a focus on defending our great nation against global threats, and I have been proud to carry out that mission in Congress for more than two decades. I am ready for a new challenge in 2027 and look forward to continuing to serve my country in the national security and foreign policy realm."
During his time in Congress, McCaul has served as the chair of both the House Homeland Security and Foreign Affairs Committees; he also served as chairman of the China Task Force, which would later become the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party.
