We're expecting another major jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics today. The biggest question right now is, how will Trump's crackdown on illegal immigration and his mass deportation efforts affect the latest jobs data?
As it turns out, we've already seen a massive shift in employment data since January thanks to Trump. Jason Richwine with the Center for Immigration Studies explained, "The number of foreign-born workers is down about 1 million since Trump took office. That's pretty significant because that number almost always goes up."
Richwine went on to say that he does expect the August jobs report to show a decline in overall jobs, but that doesn't mean you need to panic. He says, "When immigrants go home, that means the overall population is smaller. The economy actually might be quite strong but still see some of those jobs decline."
He says over time, we could see more native-born Americans come back into the workforce and wages rise due to Trump's efforts, but added that those results will take a bit longer to materialize.
Richwine also warned that reports on these latest jobs numbers will likely be very politically biased, saying, "A lot of the reports will focus purely on the total number of workers and point to Trump's immigration crackdown as a so-called 'problem' causing all of this."
