According to reports, President Trump has hinted to leaders in Europe that he's open to offering American security guarantees to Ukraine. This comes after his summit with Putin in Alaska on Friday.

According to Trump, Putin has acknowledged that a peace deal in Ukraine would inevitably lead to Western troops being stationed in Ukraine to ensure peace holds up.

Putin had reportedly demanded Ukraine cede portions of the eastern Ukraine Donbas region in return for the front lines being frozen in other areas, something Trump is likely to discuss with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during their White House meeting on Monday.

Previously, President Trump has been hesitant to commit American resources, especially troops, to Ukraine's aid, with many concerned that this could result in an escalation and direct U.S. involvement in the war.

European leaders appear thrilled at Trump's potential willingness to guarantee Ukrainian security. Leaders of Britain, Poland, Italy, and other European nations issued a joint statement saying, "We are clear that Ukraine must have ironclad security guarantees to effectively defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity."

President Putin of Russia has yet to respond to all of this, suggesting it may be a topic of conversation during the potential trilateral meeting between Putin, Trump, and Zelenskyy that Trump has begun pushing for.
