There have been stories for the last number of years of banking institutions suddenly dropping customers, who usually fall under conservative organizations. The Left has screamed it is nothing but conspiracy, but there have been too many stories to make it a mere blip. The National Committee for Religious Freedom had that very thing happen to them. There are countless stories of it happening across the industry.
President Trump has been trying to take the issue on for years and now appears to be on the cusp of action. The White House is reportedly prepping an order that would fine banks that drop customers for political purposes. That is according to the Wall Street Journal, who reported it on Monday. The order would direct bank regulators to investigate for any violations of the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, antitrust laws, or consumer financial protection laws.
Sam Brownback, Chairman of the aforementioned National Committee for Religious Freedom and former Governor of Kansas, says this is necessary after years of banks doing the governments dirty work.
"The government, if they want to find a problem, and you have lots of different activities...they are going to find a problem," he says. "So, they just started shutting down a lot of these conservative accounts."
The order would provide monetary penalties, among other disciplinary measures. But this all loops back to one simple thing: politics.
Plain and simple, the Left has used their power over banks to silence conservatives. All of it as part of their platform to convince the American public that somehow, they are morally correct.
"It is an effort to suffocate people of dissent they disagree with, and that disagree with their cultural views...and that is wrong," says Brownback. "You should not have to check your views going into the public marketplace or going to get a bank."
After all, that is the whole point of the first amendment. Free speech and dissenting viewpoints. Basic human freedom. But Democrats have warped themselves into believing only their speech is right. Anything else to them is a threat and has to be silenced.
If this order does come to fruition, it is an important step back to normal political freedom. Based on where we are right now in the country, legislation is the only way to start reversing the trend.
"So, you do not have commercial entities being bullied by regulators to exclude disfavored organizations," Brownback says.
The White House has not confirmed the report, with just the Wall Street Journal reporting. But if this bill happens, it could be a big step in the right direction of freedom.
