Governor Greg Abbott joined a panel of state and local officials in San Angelo, in Tom Green County, to provide an update on the Independence Day flood recovery efforts.
According to the governor, the death toll has tragically risen to 116 in the Kerrville area and 135 people statewide.
Abbott spoke in detail about the recovery efforts in Tom Green County and said that boat crews have been operating in the area since July 3, a day before the floods.
He went on to praise the disaster declaration by the federal government, saying it has facilitated critical individual assistance across the state.
Abbott also spoke about plans for the upcoming special session and said both the response and how future disasters can be prevented will be looked at by the legislature.
