How Bad Is The Rift Between Governor Greg Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick?

On Sunday night at the last minute, Governor Greg Abbott vetoed SB 3, the THC ban in Texas. And then on Monday, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick went off, and basically called Abbott a liar.

So now, many Republicans across the state are wondering how real is the rift between Abbott and Patrick?

"I think there's probably a rift on this issue, I'm not sure there's a rift more broadly" said Austin based GOP consultant, Matt Mackowiak, "I see this as being a short term issue, they'll either find a way to deal with it in the special session, or we'll all move on and maybe it comes back two years from now. I don't see this being some massive rift that changes things in the future."

For the immediate future, all eyes will be on Austin for the 'special session'. After that, most believe the 'rift' will also pass.

"I don't see this simmering for much longer" Mackowiak told KTRH, "It may go on until July during the special session, but after that it'll either pass or it won't, and I think we'll all move on."

Governor Abbott's 'special session' for the Texas legislature is set to begin on July 21st.
