Governor Greg Abbott just officially signed bail reform into law, during a press conference at Houston Crime Stoppers.
The bail reform measures, Senate Bill 9 and Senate Joint Resolution 5, would make it easier to hold those facing serious felony charges without bond.
While the bail reform (SB 9 & SJR 5) is considered historic, Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick blasted Houston Democrats for -not- passing SJR 1, and both said they would be held accountable, and that there would be a reckoning, for picking violent criminals over citizens.
After the news conference, Governor Abbott was asked whether or not he plans to sign Senate Bill 3, which would ban products containing THC here in Texas.
"It is one of literally more than a thousand bills on my desk, all of which need my careful consideration and evaluation, and I will give all of those pieces of legislation the consideration and time that they deserve" Abbott said. And then when pressed again with a follow-up, Abbott replied, "Very nice twist to the question, you're still not going to get an answer."
Gov. Abbott has until June 22nd, to sign or veto any bill.
