In what will hopefully be a big win for Texas, the DOJ has withdrawn it's claims against the state in a redistricting case.
It's something that has been dealt with locally in Galveston County, for years.
"We did nothing but draw maps based on population, and we think that that's the right way to do it" said Galveston County Judge, Mark Henry. Unfortunately, the cases against Galveston County have not yet been dropped.
"There's still 3 other plaintiff's in the case, so the DOJ dropping it doesn't necessarily end the suit" Judge Henry told KTRH, "The 5th Circuit sent the (Galveston County) case back down to the trial court with justice Jeff Brown, so it currently resides with him. We're waiting on a final order from judge Brown, then we'll see what that order is when that comes out. And where do we go from there."
The next trial could start in May.
