You can call it the Schumer shutdown if it happens.
Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer says Republicans do not have the votes to pass the spending bill sent to them by the House this week. While Republicans have a 53 to 47 advantage in the Senate, the GOP needs 60 votes to pass the bill. And if the bill does not pass by Friday night, there will be a partial government shutdown.
With Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., a committed "no" vote, the GOP will need eight Democrats to join them, an unlikely outcome with most Democrats preferring a one-month bill to allow for further discussion on a new appropriations agreement.
"Republicans do not have the votes in the Senate to invoke cloture on the House CR,” Schumer said.
The bill passed the House by a 217 to 213 margin this week, with one Democrat voting in favor of the package.
Democrats are complaining about Elon Musk, and the cuts to the federal government being carried out after DOGE's efforts. But, they forget that in 2010, then House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called for cuts to wasteful spending. You can see that below, because the internet never forgets.
