Texas National Guard soldiers will now be able to arrest illegal aliens themselves, thanks to a new partnership with Customs and Border Protection (CBP). This is expected to be a major boost to border patrol operations in Texas.
This partnership is the result of an agreement between Texas Governor Greg Abbott and acting CBP Commissioner Pete Flores. Breitbart's Bob Price says that under the agreement, the Texas National Guard, while working with CBP on a 4 to 1 ratio, can actually make arrests of illegal aliens, rather than just reporting them to CBP.
Price believes that this will provide a major boost to border patrol operations here in Texas because it's effectively an increase in CBP personnel. He gave an example of how this could help CBP, saying, "Say they encounter a big group, and the group takes off. It's not just a Border Patrol agent that can tackle them and put them into custody. The guardsmen can as well."
He went on to say that this move reflects the Trump Administration's commitment to using every available resource to secure the border. He also pointed out how this mirrors enforcement efforts across the country, saying, "It's the same kind of thing that you're seeing out on the streets, where ICE agents are being accompanied by ATF, DEA agents, U.S. Marshals, and FBI."
Price says overall, this move will be a game changer, and on top of that, he suggests it could be expanded to include guardsmen from other states as well.
