What Does The GOP's Slim Majority Mean For Trump's Agenda

The Republican majority in the House of Representatives is razor-thin, and it's going to stay that way until special elections can be called to fill seats left open by Trump's cabinet picks. That's going to make the first several weeks of Trump's presidency tricky.

Political Consultant Matt Mackowiak says there is zero room for error here. He said, "They're going to have to have almost unanimous support in the House for Trump's initiatives. Everyone's got to be pulling in the same direction with the margin as narrow as it is."

That doesn't mean that Trump's agenda is dead on arrival. He says that Trump will still be able to get his main priorities, like border security, through the House. He said, "That is going to have to be a unifying piece of legislation, and I think it probably will. Trump ran on that, he won on that; the problem is an absolute crisis."

He also thinks that a tax cut bill will still be able to make it through the House as well.

Mackowiak also said that he thinks the extra attention being paid to the goings-on in Congress is going to help keep the GOP in line. He said, "I think you're going to see tremendous pressures on those members on the far right, and those members in the middle, because they often don't see things in the same way."
