A Georgia appeals court has disqualified Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and her office from prosecuting the 2020 election interference case against President-elect Donald Trump.
Trump and his co-defendants in the case had pushed to have Willis removed after it was revealed that she had been romantically involved with the special prosecutor who had been assigned to the case, Nathan Wade.
Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee had previously ruled that one of the two needed to leave the case due to an "appearance of impropriety." Shortly after that ruling, Wade resigned.
The court ruled that the failure to remove Willis from the case was a mistake. The ruling stated, "After carefully considering the trial court's findings in its order, we conclude that it erred by failing to disqualify DA Willis and her office."
The case against Trump has not yet been dismissed, but the disqualification of the Fulton County District Attorney's office is a major blow.
