Some businesses are using new scare tactics to get customers to buy now. They're saying that prices could go up due to Trump's proposed tariffs on China. The truth is, just like in his first term, Trump's tariffs likely won't lead to price hikes.
Heritage Foundation economist EJ Antoni told KTRH, "What we saw during the first Trump administration was a lot of fear-mongering around tariffs, but we actually saw the average price of imports go down."
He says this is just more of the same lies that we have heard from the left for years. He pointed out that those on the left who are pushing this narrative aren't really trustworthy. He said, "The same people who are telling us that Trump is going to cause runaway inflation also told us during his first term that he was going to cause runaway inflation."
Antoni also said that there's a decent chance we don't even end up seeing major tariffs because China, like Mexico and Canada have already done, will likely just come to the table and negotiate with Trump before tariffs even come into play.
He said, "So much of the tariff threat that President Trump is articulating right now is just that — a threat. What he has done is figure out how to weaponize the purchasing power of the American consumer."
