Trump Nominates Hedge Fund Manager Scott Bessent as Treasury Secretary

President-elect Donald Trump has picked hedge fund manager Scott Bessent to be Treasury Department secretary.

In a statement released Friday, Trump said Bessent, who was a key economic policy adviser for the Trump campaign this year, will help welcome in a new "Golden Age for the United States."

"Scott is widely respected as one of the World’s foremost International Investors and Geopolitical and Economic Strategists," Trump said. "Scott’s story is that of the American Dream."

Bessent is the founder and CEO of global macro investment firm Key Square Group.

In some other cabinet picks made by the president-elect this week, Trump nominated Russ Vought to lead the Office of Management and Budget. He also picked Oregon Congresswoman Lori Chavez-DeRemer as secretary of labor, Dr. Marty Makary as Food and Drug Administration commissioner, Dr. Janette Nesheiwat as the nation's next surgeon general and former U.S. Senator Kelly Loeffler as Agriculture secretary.
