The police chief in Uvalde is stepping down. Daniel Rodriguez gave city officials his resignation letter today, saying his last day on the job will be April 6th. Rodriguez says the resignation is what's best for him and his family, adding there was no pressure for him to step down. The resignation letter does not mention the 2022 attack on Robb Elementary school that left 19 students and two teachers dead. Rodriguez was out of state on a scheduled vacation when the gunman attacked the school. Uvalde Mayor Cody Smith released a statement wishing Rodriguez the best and thanking him for his 26 years of service to the city. Assistant Chief of Police Homer Delgado will be interim chief while the mayor and city manager conduct a search for a replacement.
