On This Day in 1969 - Apollo 11 astronauts were introduced to the world

This photo of astronauts Buzz Aldrin, Neil Armstrong and Michael Collins was taken on January 10, 1969 at the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston.

The day before, on January 9, 1969, NASA announced that Buzz Aldrin, Neil Armstrong and Michael Collins would be the prime crew for Apollo11 and called the mission “the earliest flight on which a Moon landing might be made.”

Apollo 11 launched on July 16, 1969 and the Lunar Module "Eagle" with Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin aboard landed on the Moon on July 20th of that year.
