Officials at several universities in Texas are celebrating the passage of a state constitutional amendment to fund research at eligible schools. Voters on Tuesday approved Proposition 5, which will establish a nearly four-billion-dollar research endowment. The measure received more than 64% of the vote. So far the University of Houston, the University of North Texas, Texas Tech, and Texas State are set to benefit from the new Texas University Fund. The four schools receive no money from the Permanent University Fund, which supports schools in the Texas A&M and University of Texas systems.
