A massive fireball shot across the Texas sky on Tuesday night (January 10) and the whole thing was caught on camera. The American Meteor Society received a total of 179 reports of the fireball on Tuesday and Wednesday so far from residents in Texas and Oklahoma.
My San Antonio reported that residents all across the state, from Houston to Dallas, spotted the fireball. The incident left some wondering what they saw. Some residents thought it was leftover fireworks, while others thought it may have been a shooting star.
The American Meteor Society shared videos of the fireball on YouTube. Check them out below:
ABC 13 meteorologist Travis Herzog wrote on Facebook:
"A fireball (meteor) is reported to have streaked across the Texas sky around 6:45 pm. Anyone see it or capture it on camera?"
Brett Odorizzi commented, "Caught it on my dash cam while traveling north on Interstate 37. About 20-30 miles from San Antonio in northern Atascosa County. Coincidentally a song called Fire in the Sky was playing. Very fitting."
