1 FBI Disrupted Alleged Terrorist Bombing Plot For New Year's Eve In LA
Four people were arrested in connection with a plot to set off bombs in the Los Angeles area on New Year's Eve, Attorney General Pam Bondi announced yesterday. The suspects are members of the Turtle Island Liberation Front, which Bondi described as a "far-left" group. According to a criminal complaint, the group had gotten bomb-making materials and traveled to the Mojave Desert on Friday to build and test explosive devices. FBI agents arrested them before they could finish putting together a working bomb. The suspects, Audrey Illeene Carroll, Zachary Aaron Page, Dante Gaffield and Tina Lai, face charges of conspiracy and possession of an unregistered destructive device. Court documents say the plan, called "Operation Midnight Sun," involved placing backpacks with homemade bombs at five locations tied to two U.S. companies at midnight on New Year's Eve.
2 Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Says They're "On The Verge" Of Peace Deal With Ukraine
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov told ABC News yesterday that he believes Russia and Ukraine are "on the verge" of reaching a deal to end the war. U.S. officials said yesterday that about 90-percent of the issues between the two countries have been worked out. Russia insists on keeping control of Crimea, which it took over in 2014, plus four other regions it has partially occupied: Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said he will not give up any land to Russia. Another sticking point is the possible placement of NATO troops in Ukraine after the war ends.

Police had detained a different person of interest at a hotel on Sunday, but let him go after the evidence pointed elsewhere.
