1 Appeals Court Rules Many Of Trump's Tariffs Are Illegal, But Doesn't Stop Them
A federal appeals court ruled on Friday that most of President Trump's global tariffs are illegal, finding that he exceeded his authority when using emergency powers to impose the wide-ranging duties. The US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit upheld an earlier ruling by a lower court, but the 7-4 decision allowed the tariffs to remain in place until mid-October while the administration appeals to the Supreme Court. The court found that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, which Trump used to justify the tariffs, does not give the president the authority to impose such taxes. Trump vowed to fight the ruling, saying on his Truth Social platform that "if allowed to stand, this Decision would literally destroy the United States of America."
2 President Trump Says He's Giving Rudy Giuliani The Presidential Medal of Freedom
President Trump said he will award former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani the Presidential Medal of Freedom, calling him the greatest mayor in the city’s history and a true patriot. The announcement came only two days after Giuliani was seriously injured in a car crash in New Hampshire shortly after helping a domestic violence victim, but police say there was no connection between the two incidents. Trump praised Giuliani’s leadership after the September 11 attacks and his long career in public service, saying he deserves the nation’s highest civilian honor.
3 Boy Dies After Being Shot In "Ding Dong Ditch" Prank
An 11-year-old boy has died after being shot while playing "ding dong ditch" with friends in southeast Houston on Saturday night. The shooting happened around 11 pm near Racine Street when the boy and his friends were ringing doorbells and running away as part of the classic prank. According to police, someone came out of a house with a gun and opened fire, hitting the child in the back as he was running away. The boy was taken to the hospital in critical condition and died from his injuries on Sunday. Police detained one person for questioning Saturday night after using a bullhorn to urge them out of the house with their hands up. Houston homicide Detective Michael Cass said the circumstances don't appear to support a self-defense claim, noting the shooting wasn't close to the house, which could possibly result in a murder charge.
