1 Russia Launches Drone Attack On Ukraine After Trump-Zelenskyy Meeting At Pope Francis' Funeral
Russia launched a significant drone assault on Ukraine yesterday, deploying 149 drones across six regions: Zhytomyr, Dnipropetrovsk, Odessa, Donetsk, Sumy, and Cherkasy. Ukrainian air defenses intercepted 57 drones, while 67 others failed mid-flight. This escalation occurred just hours after President Donald Trump had a one-on-one conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at Pope Francis's funeral in Vatican City. Both leaders described their meeting as productive, emphasizing discussions on achieving a full and unconditional ceasefire. President Trump was not happy with Russian President Vladimir Putin after the attack yesterday, questioning his commitment to peace and suggesting the possibility of imposing banking or secondary sanctions. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio indicated that the coming week would be critical in determining the future of American involvement in the conflict, emphasizing the need for a diplomatic resolution. Ukrainian officials reported that Russia had launched 48 missiles and 442 attack drones into the country last week.
2 Wisconsin Judge Arrested For Obstruction Related To Illegal Immigrant
Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan was arrested by the FBI at her courthouse late Friday on federal obstruction charges. She is accused of assisting Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, an undocumented immigrant, in evading arrest by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. According to federal authorities, on April 18th, ICE agents were present at the courthouse to detain Flores-Ruiz, who was scheduled to appear before Judge Dugan on battery charges. Judge Dugan allegedly questioned the validity of the warrant and directed the agents to consult with the chief judge. She reportedly then allowed Flores-Ruiz and his attorney to exit the courtroom through a private jury door, enabling him to temporarily avoid arrest. Flores-Ruiz was later apprehended outside the courthouse after a brief foot chase. Judge Dugan has been charged with two felony counts: obstructing or impeding a proceeding before a federal department or agency, and concealing an individual to prevent his discovery and arrest. She was released from custody after her initial court appearance and is scheduled for a hearing on May 15.
3 Second Suspect Arrested In Theft Of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem's Purse
Two people have now been arrested in connection with the theft of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s purse on Easter Sunday in Washington, D.C. The stolen purse contained approximately $3,000 in cash, Noem’s passport, driver’s license, apartment keys, and her Department of Homeland Security badge. The first suspect has been identified as 49-year-old Mario Bustamante Leiva, a Chilean national residing in the U.S. illegally, who was apprehended without incident. Authorities describe him as a "serial offender" linked to multiple thefts in the area. U.S. Attorney Ed Martin stated that there is no indication Noem was targeted due to her official position, suggesting the theft was opportunistic, focusing on the high-value handbag. A second suspect, also reportedly in the country illegally, was later apprehended in Miami.
