1 President Of El Salvador Says He Won't Return Mistakenly Deported Man
Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a 29-year-old Maryland resident, was mistakenly deported to El Salvador on March 15th despite a U.S. immigration court order protecting him from removal due to credible threats from local gangs. Upon arrival, he was detained in El Salvador's Terrorism Confinement Center, a facility known for its harsh conditions and alleged human rights abuses. The U.S. Supreme Court acknowledged the deportation as illegal and directed the Trump administration to "facilitate" Abrego Garcia's release. However, President Nayib Bukele of El Salvador has refused to comply, saying yesterday at the White House that he lacks the authority to override domestic custody decisions and labeling the request "preposterous." Bukele, aligning with President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, has emphasized his commitment to detaining individuals accused of gang affiliations, despite the absence of evidence linking Abrego Garcia to such activities. The Trump administration contends that it has fulfilled its obligation by addressing domestic obstacles and asserts it cannot compel a foreign nation to act. This stance has led to criticism from lawmakers and human rights organizations, who argue that the administration is circumventing judicial authority and violating due process. As of now, Abrego Garcia remains imprisoned in El Salvador, with his family and legal representatives continuing to advocate for his return to the United States.
2 Arson At Gov. Josh Shapiro's Residence Labeled "Domestic Terrorism" By Fire Chief
Talking to the press yesterday, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania Fire Chief Brian Enterline called the firebomb attack on the residence of Gov. Josh Shapiro on Sunday an act of domestic terrorism. The suspect, 38-year-old Cody Allen Balmer of Penbrook, Pennsylvania, allegedly scaled a nearly 7-foot-high security fence, broke a window, and threw Molotov cocktails into the residence, igniting multiple fires. Surveillance footage captured Balmer inside the mansion for less than a minute before he fled the scene. Balmer later turned himself in, reportedly confessing to the attack and expressing a desire to harm Governor Shapiro with a sledgehammer. He has been charged with attempted murder, terrorism, aggravated arson, and aggravated assault. His mother claims Balmer suffers from untreated mental illness, and Judge Dale Klein asked Balmer at his hearing yesterday if he suffered from mental illness. Balmer replied, “That’s the rumor, but no ma’am.” Klein denied his request for bail.
3 Trump Is Considering A Pause On Auto Tariffs
Another day, another possible tariff exemption. President Donald Trump announced yesterday that he’s considering a temporary exemption from the recently imposed 25-percent tariffs on imported vehicles and parts. Trump said automakers need additional time to restructure their complex international supply chains and shift production to the United States. President Trump's consideration of a tariff pause follows his earlier decision to grant temporary exemptions for certain electronics, such as smartphones and computers, from new tariffs.
