During last year's 2025 Texas legislative session, newcomer State Representative Andy Hopper (R-Decatur) introduced legislation that would challenge the free education given to illegals.
But the bill was never given a committee hearing, because fellow Republican Jarred Patterson said the bill had an "author problem".
"Let's be really clear, that is nothing but a smoke screen for not passing conservative policy, and not saying out loud what we know to be true" Hopper said.
What is it, that we know to be true? That Texas still has a 'RINO' problem.
"We totally have a RINO problem in Texas" Hopper told KTRH, "Where leadership makes concessions to Democrats, in exchange for support."
This all came to a head last week, when Texas lawmakers gathered in Washington to meet with Homeland Security Advisor, Stephen Miller, who asked if Texas had a RINO problem, after Republicans failed to pass key legislation, like Hopper's bill HB 4707.
"I think it's great that Stephen Miller brought up a number of action items" noted Hopper, who's bill was mentioned during the meeting, "The best estimates I've heard is that it's probably over $10 billion dollars a year, is what the citizens of Texas are paying to educate those that aren't here legally."
Hopefully, the Texas RINO's received the message, and bills like Hopper's will pass during next year's 2027 Texas legislative session.
