AAA Expects 9.4 million Texans to Travel This Holiday Season

The AAA holiday season is from December 20th until January 1st. Drivers can feel relieved with gas prices hitting an all-time low in 4 years with the national average dipping below $3 dollars and Texas gas prices at $2.51 cents. “That certainly is an early holiday gift helping millions save money as they prepare to travel. Ninety-three percent of those that are traveling will do so by car. AAA’s, Daniel Armbuster said.

He says the agency expects 110 million drivers nationwide. Drivers should plan for delays and congestion and can help ease tensions before getting behind the wheel, by looking at alternative routes, and leaving early and making sure to get plenty of rest to decrease risk of an accident or stressful drive.

In addition, AAA expects to rescue 40,000 motorists roadside. Flat tires, dead batteries and engine problems. “You don’t want to be one of those motorists. Have your car checked out before you hit the road. You don’t want to deal with that over the holidays too.” Armbuster said.

December is National Impaired Driving Month. He says MADD and AAA are urging drivers to have a plan before alcohol is consumed. “If you’re planning a party have nonalcoholic alternatives for your guests. Use ride share, plan an overnight stay or just a designated driver. Just have a plan.” Armbuster said.

Of the 9.4 million, 411,000 are traveling by plane- up almost 6 percent from 2024. The 8.7 million travelers by car shows an increase of almost 1.5 percent from last year, with 280,000 using other kinds of transportation such as bus, boat, or by rail. Nationally, AAA expects 122.4 million Americans to travel for the year-end holidays – the busiest on record with 2.7 million more than 2024.
